area 91,5 m2

The apartment, with the size of 90m², is located on the hill in Mikulov, looking over the entire town, built in the style of Italian renaissance. The space of the apartment is a part of the attic floor of an old brick house, which consists of six apartment units for families.

The major part of the project was the refurbishment of the aged roof layer, keeping only the necessary timber parts of the structure. The removal of all original walls allowed for a new, clear definition of the apartment space defined by the pitched roof, and establishing the new order with only a subtle transition between the zones.

The roof is uplifted by the large openings. The light coming through the big windows becomes an essential element of the architecture and the atmosphere, demonstrated by the framed views as artworks from romantic times. The windows face south, west and north and flood the living space with light and picturesque sunsets.

The rooms are open and flow into each other following the same material patterns. The two bedrooms are located in the upper floor of the apartment, allowing to achieve the higher level of intimacy.

The oak wood floor, birch wood furniture and bright colours are a subtle choice of materials to complement the apartment natural surroundings provided behind the windows.
